4 April 2018

It's April and planning is well underway!!  Camp is booked for August 13 to 17, 2018.

Our theme for this year is "Love Your Neighbour as Yourself" and it's taken from Galations 5:14.  We have some new ideas this year and we are reusing some of our favourite ideas from the past.

Volunteer incentive!!  We have looked closely at our financial situation and have found ourselves in a position of being able to offer a discount to campers who have a parent or older sibling volunteering at camp for the week.  Campers will receive a $25 discount off their registration!

Registration will open on May 1 and will be first come, first served.  The cost this year is $150 and we have room for 80 teens.

What to expect at camp.

Upon arrival you will receive a T-shirt and bandana in your team colour.  You are expected to wear your bandana for the whole week and it must be secured and visible at all times.  You will be told when to wear your camp shirt.

You will be assigned to a room with friends that you requested on your registration form.  Each room sleeps 4 to 6 teens in bunk beds.

Throughout the week you will participate in sports such as volleyball, soccer and basketball, challenges, games and devotions with your team.  Your team will have 2 adult counsellors who are there to guide and support you!  You will be treated to lots of good meals and snacks throughout your day :)  There will be 3 presentations (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings)  You will learn some Bible verses and songs, enjoy campfires, and free time.

Thursday evening you will put on a talent show with your team!  This is one of the highlights of the week and is sure to have you laughing!

Friday morning after breakfast we will clean up and pack up, then have a coffee social with a short program including a slide show highlighting the week's activities.

This is a week that is sure to be etched in your memory for a lifetime!

Counting down the days...

At the time of writing this we have 12 days left till camp starts!  We are all super excited for this year's camp and look forward to seeing familiar faces and new ones too!

Some important things to remember -
  • Each camper is asked to bring along a dozen pieces of baking and hand it in at the time of registration.  If you want your container back, please label it and remember to pick it up at the end of Friday's coffee social.
  • Since camp registration is from 1:00 to 2:00 please make sure you have eaten some lunch before your arrival.  Summer tends to mean sleeping in and eating meals later and we have had some pretty hungry kids by dinner time on the first day because of missed lunches!
  • Friday morning coffee social begins at 11:00 am.  Please respect this time and understand that coming earlier than that can make it difficult for all of us to do our jobs before the coffee social is supposed to start.  We will all be busy with cleaning up our rooms and the facilities as well as setting up and preparing for parents to arrive.
  • We are excited to treat you all to a singing performance and a beautiful slide show highlighting all the activities of the week.  You won't want to miss this!  The program will be short and sweet though so you can be on your way by 12:00!
There will be an email sent out to parents with some more information as well as requests for food donations in the next week or so!

Registration is Open!

Sunset Point Teen Camp is for students currently in Grade 7 to 9 who are members of the Canadian Reformed or United Reformed churches anywhere in Alberta.

It is 5 days of faith, fun and fellowship!  Campers will learn and grow in their faith, have a tonne of fun and make new friendships while being lead and supported by a group of fantastic volunteers.  You will be well-fed and exhausted ;)

Sunset Point is in the beautiful small town of Alberta Beach and is situated across the road from the lake.  It is a Pentecostal Bible Camp that we rent for one week.  If the lake is clean we can swim in it but other than that we stay on the camp ground for the entire time.

We are also recruiting volunteers to help make this week a success so please check out the "volunteer" tab and sign up!!

Camp is next week!!

Camp is quickly approaching and I wanted to share a few more details with you all.

Teens should be arriving at camp between 1:00 and 2:00 on Monday, August 8.  (You should have had your lunch before you arrive at camp.)  I know you are all super excited and can't wait for camp to start but if you arrive too early you will be asked to wait till 1:00 since we won't be ready for you :)

Remember that Monday night's dinner will be a formal dinner so dress up!  Sunday clothes is just fine.

There will be NO PARENT NIGHT this year!  We will instead be doing a Kangaroo Kourt just for the kids on Thursday.

Please come to the coffee social program on Friday morning.  The program will start at 11:00 am and will be a quick wrap up of the week including singing and a slide show of all the fun times.  If you are able to help with clean up we would really appreciate it!  We need to have the Mess Hall cleaned up by 12:00 and campers will be dismissed at that time.

Don't forget anything on the packing list!

If you need to contact anyone at camp or you need to speak to your child you may contact either James or myself by cell.  Our info is under the Contact Us tab.  Please keep this for emergencies only though.  I'm sure your teens will tell you all about their week when you take them home after :)

And a HUGE THANK YOU to all our volunteers!!
